American Solidarity Party of North Carolina

The American Solidarity Party is deeply troubled by the nomination of Gina Haspel to Directorship of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). We recognize the fact that Deputy Director Haspel would be the first female Director of the CIA; however, the fact remains that the nominee oversaw the torture of a terrorist suspect at a secret CIA prison and requested the destruction of video documentation of torturous interrogations cannot be taken seriously enough. The actions of Haspel represent a cognizant rejection of human dignity by Haspel and highlight her belief in violence as a preferred method to achieve her goals.
The American Solidarity Party strongly condemns the use of torture – by whatever method, for whatever purpose, and by whatever euphemism it may be called. The CIA’s secret interrogation program and use of torture during the War on Terror are one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history, and for this reason, the American Solidarity Party supports a full review of the effectiveness of security agencies, including the CIA. Deputy Director Haspel has accomplished much during her years of service; however, because of her participation in this program and her current position on the use of torture, Haspel must be fully and carefully examined, be blocked from serving as CIA director, and be held accountable for her crimes against humanity.
